The outdoors has the potential to transform a person in many ways. By constantly throwing up new challenges, the outdoors provides an enriching experience. Developed by the Experiential Learning Division at Great Indian Outdoors(GIO), Kshitij is a complete gamut of specialized activities for children. Set miles from the thronging crowds amidst breathtaking off-the-beaten-path locales, the GIO Camps are ideal bases for such programs. Here, nestled in the lap of nature in all her glory we introduce our participants to activity-based programs that give equal emphasis to fun and learning, Designed to stimulate and excite, each activity fires the children’s imagination as they face up to and overcome each challenge. In addition to programs at the experience is tangible, meaningful and capable of extending beyond the span of the program.
The programs are run under the watchful eye of highly trained instructors and facilitators, each an expert in his/her field with impeccable credentials. Our camps are manned by efficient staff capable of responding to the special needs of an outdoor program like Kshitij. At every stage, our team takes utmost care to ensure that the learning experience is very bit as safe as it is enjoyable.
Day 1: Depart from Delhi the previous night to arrive in the Himalayan Eco Lodge in Rajaji National Park by 0700 hrs. Arrival followed by a briefing and do's and don'ts to be adhered to. Post breakfast, a NATURE WALK in the forest with an expert on the flora and fauna that exists in the park. Return to the lodge for lunch followed by a JUNGLE SAFARI into the park. During this safari one has the chance of spotting the wide variety of wildlife that this park supports. In the night, bonfire and dinner.
Day 2: Post early breakfast we begin the drive to Harsil (240 kms). Lunch would be served enroute. We would be passing the important town of Uttarkashi on the way. Arrival in Harsil by late evening and a short WALK to the riverside to stretch after the long drive. In the night, bonfire and dinner under the stars.
Day 3: After breakfast, we set off a full day TREK in the surrounding areas. Harsil is surrounded by thick jungle and is ideal base for beautiful day treks. We would be trekking through trails which offer great views of the Himalayan range and through varied scenery. Return to the camp in the evening for a well deserved rest. In the night, bonfire and dinner.
Day 4: Post breakfast, we drive to GANGOTRI (25 kms), which is amongst the most important temples for Hindus. This temple forms a part of the Char Dham yatra that thousands of pilgrims take part in every year. The temple is closed during the winter months (November to April). Return to Harsil for lunch. Post lunch we will have activities like VALLEY CROSSING, FUN GAMES, etc. in the lodge itself. In the night, bonfire and dinner.
Day 5: Post early breakfast, we begin the drive to our Himalayan Eco Lodge in New Tehri (close to the Tehri Lake and Dam). Enroute we will visit the ancient KASHI VISHWANATH TEMPLE in UTTARKASHI before arriving at the lodge by late afternoon. Once at the lodge soak in the beautiful views of the Himalayan range in the background and the Tehri lake and dam in the foreground. Depending on the time available we will go around in the Pine forest that surrounds this lodge and also visit an ancient temple located close by. In the night, dinner on the balconies of the lodge.
Day 6: Post early breakfast, we will pack up and begin the drive back to Delhi. We will first drive to the TEHRI DAM and LAKE to have a closer look at this magnificent man made structure. From here we will head off for Delhi. Lunch enroute. Arrive in Delhi by 2200 hrs.
- Transport from and back to Delhi or Dehradun/Haridwar. In case of coach transport there would be 27-seater Non Ac coaches or smaller vehicles. The train Journey would be by sleeper Class.
- Accommodation in tents/rooms on quadruple sharing basis. All the units are comfortably furnished with cots, mattresses, sleeping bags/quilts, etc. and the tents are all-weather proof to handle normal adverse weather like rainfall. The sanitary facilities in the camp and lodges include running water toilets. During the trek, accommodation would be in trekking tents.
- All vegetarian meals beginning with breakfast on Day 1 to lunch on the last day. All meals are prepared keeping mind the profile of the participants and their dietary needs for an activity program such as this one. Therefore meals are prepared with less use of spices, oil, etc. and they are also provided with energy drinks and snacks to keep they hydrated throughout out the day.
- All activities as mentioned in the itinerary. Activities like rafting are conducted only for children above the age of 10 years and if for any reason a student is not willing to do an activity, he/she would be encouraged to take part in the same but is never forced to do it.
- Professional Tour Escorts would lead the trip from and back to Delhi/Dehradun/Haridwar.
- Instructors and equipment for all the activities. All the activities are supervised and conducted by our expert instructors who are trained and professionally qualified to conduct the same.
