True to its name, GIO Camp Room-on-the-Roof is set atop a series of step farms overlooking the Viraatkhai valley, 25 kms from Chakrata. Standing in splendid isolation at an altitude of 1900 m, the camp offers breathtaking views of snow-capped Himalayan peak on a clear day and hold special promise for genuine nature lovers. Far from the bustle of urban life, all you are likely to hear are sweet bird songs and the rush of mountain winds sweeping across the valley.

A 45 minute drive from the camp brings one to the upper stretches of the Yamuna, the favoured river for the true whitewater rafting enthusiast!! Each rapid in this section of the river comes hard on the heels of the previous one, creating a fast and furious rafting experience unmatched by anything the Ganges has to offer. In addition to rafting and white-water sport, there is a vast range of other adventure activities like rock climbing, rappelling, bridge slithering, hiking over little explored mountain trails, ensures that your stay at the camp is a truly memorable one.

Day 1:

Arrive at Camp Room-on-the-Roof by 0800 hrs. Post breakfast, depart for WHITE WATER RAFTING ON THE YAMUNA for 2 hours of thrilling non stop white water action on the hottest rafting stretch this side of the Himalayas. Return to the camp for lunch. Post lunch, head out for a session of ROCK CLIMBING & RAPPELLING under the supervision of our instructors. Return to the camp in the evening for bonfire and dinner.

Day 2:

After breakfast, drive 24 kms to Chakrata and from here trek to TIGER FALLS (you could also drive 45 kms to a point near the Falls, from where the Falls is a 20 mins walk). The trek is 4 kms and after all the twists and turns that the trail has to offer, the beauty of the sight of this roaring falls is awesome. With mist spraying all over and water gushing from over a 100 ft, a dip in its pool below is refreshing beyond words and a feeling that you will remember for ages to come. Packed lunch will be made available for everyone on the trip. Post lunch relax by the falls for some time and walk up to the road (30 mins) from where you could drive back to the camp (45 kms). In the night, bonfire and dinner at the camp.

Day 3:

After breakfast, depart for Mussoorie/Dehradun or your onward destination.

1. What kind of equipments do you use?

A. We have NRS and Hyside Rafts. This apart we have paddles, life jackets and helmets as mandatory requirements that each person on a raft must have. Depending on the kind of trip we even have wet suits and dry tops to keep cold out.

2. How do you conduct a rafting expedition?

A. We have a group (individuals coming from different places or a group as a whole) negotiate white water over a period of days. We stop every day in the evening, pitch our tents, have food have some fun things to do and move on the next day in the morning. This kind of a trip is a self sustaining trip.

3. What about your guides?

A.  All our guides for expeditions have been running on rivers for more than fifteen years. Our two senior most guides have more than two decades of experience behind them, with numerous expeditions with the armed forces.

4. What about safety?

A.  Safety is our priority on all trips, whether it's a regular camp based run or an expedition. In an expedition however it becomes primary because the trip itself is self sustaining. Our staff are professionals at rescue missions and graduates from NIM. We run all our trips with safety kayaks. Kayakers with us include the 2007 Indian National Kayaking Champion.

5. What about food?

A. On a self sustaining trip you are advised to travel light. We prepare basic and nutritious food for meals. Other trips are based in our camps and you have a healthy variety to choose from.

6. What kind of experience do I need?

A.  For Camp based trips you typically don't need any experience of having rafted before. However,  on a typical rafting expedition you should have rafted at least 3-4 time before. Better even if you have rafted on a range of rivers.

7. What about clothes?

A.  On regular camp based trips non baggy comfortable wear is advised as baggy clothes tend to retain water. On expeditions you wear wet suits as your outer layer. So nothing gets wet unless you are in the water for some reason. Generally rafting keeps your body warm and you don't really wear anything too warm. The wet suit is good enough to keep you off from the winds.

8. How do you store belongings?

A. We carry dry bags with us and everybody's stuff is carried in those bags. The bags don't get wet even if they fall in water. Everything is safe. Still for Camp based trips you need to only carry your cameras / glasses or any other essentials.

9. What kind of age restrictions do you have?

A. For normal camp based rafting trips 10 years of age is a must, however for younger kids we do ensure that they get a feel of the sport through some easier float trips. On expeditions we don't take anybody under 15 yrs and even those who come need to have prior rafting experience. All individuals under the age of 18 however need to furnish parental consent.

10. How can I reserve my spot?

A. If you have already selected your trip just email at query@gio.in and mention the trip and our people will take care of everything else. However if you need help selecting the right trip, you will be helped out with the same.

Cost Includes:

  • Accommodation - In deluxe Swiss cottage tents on twin-sharing basis.
  • Food - Veg/Non-Veg multi-cuisine meals (Indian, Chinese, Continental). All meals beginning with breakfast on Day 1 to breakfast on the last day. Lunch is vegetarian and dinner would have one non-vegetarian dish. Tea/Coffee & snacks to be served whenever required.
  • Activities like rafting, rock climbing, rappelling, hiking, as mentioned in the itinerary.
  • Experienced instructors & state-of-the-art equipment to ensure maximum safety.
  • Bonfire in the nights.
  • Doctor on call.

Cost does not include:

  • Service Tax (@2.58%) on the whole bill.
  • Transport (also the transfers to and from the activity sites).
  • Liquor, soft drinks, bottled water, beverages, etc.
  • Personal expenses like tips, telephone calls, etc.
  • Any services / meals not mentioned above.
  • Insurance.
