Lansdowne, a popular retreat with the Britishers lies in the Pauri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand is named after ‘lord Lansdowne' and was set up in 1887. The British also established the Garhwal Rifles here. The town war recently voted as the cleanest tourist destination in India, all thanks to the beautiful cantonment here. The town is quite scenic and, totally unspoiled and tranquil. Add to it a fabulous view of the Himalayan peaks, a quaint church, an interesting museum & a war memorial. All this making it a great place to visit and not to forget the salubrious climate

Biking around Lansdowne is quite an experience. You move through small hamlets and thickly forested countryside roads. The whole region is set admits lovely surroundings - tall oaks and blue pines raise like spires off the mountainside. The forests are lovely, dark and deep, just ideal for those long walks and cycling around.

The biking section from Lansdowne till Satpuli on the banks of river Nayyar is a delightful one, totally downhill and going through a rich forest. Satpuli is a small overcrowded town by the riverside. From here you move along the beautiful Nayyar crossing several small villages and fields to reach Beasghat, a small village, extremely popular with fishing enthusiasts. It's considered one of the best places in the country to catch the belligerent Mahasheer fish. Here the Nayyar River meets the holy Ganga. The Biggest attraction here would be the pristine sandy beaches by the riverside owing to its unique natural formation. Camping here is an experience you will remember all your life. Though we will set up tents, sleeping out with just a mat under you and nothing between you and the stars would be a good idea. From Beasghat till Kaudiyala the Ganga goes through a totally cut off region mostly through gorges. The water is pure green and offers great swimming opportunities. It's an extremely scenic stretch though not too exciting in terms of rafting as there are hardly any rapids. You get to quench your thirst for some adrenaline pumping white water action on the lower stretches of the river.

1. What is a Multi Sport Trip? Are there any Special requirements for these trips?

A. Multi Sport Trips are essentially a holiday in the outdoors that encompasses a variety of disciplines in order to maximize your feel for the outdoors.  This includes Rafting, Hiking and mountain biking for most of the trips and other adventure activities like rappelling, Bridge Slithering and river crossing from time to time. As far as rafting is concerned there is no requirement to know swimming, but one must not be averse to getting wet. For Biking sections it is essential that you know how to cycle and hiking definitely requires a desire to trundle around in the mountains.

2. What kind of equipments do you use?

A. We have NRS and Hyside Rafts for white water rafting and Merida Bikes for Biking .This apart we have paddles, life jackets and helmets as mandatory requirements that each person on a raft must have and helmets and other body safety gear for mountain biking, Hiking per se does not require any gear. All other adventure activities are conducted with gear that is internationally used and approved.

3. How do you conduct a Multi Sport Trip?

A. We have a group (individuals coming from different places or a group as a whole) negotiate the itinerary as planned with rafting, hiking and biking topping the list.   Typically you will be active from 4-6 hours a day and have the rest of the time to just soak in the outdoors.

4. What about your guides & Instructors?

A.  All our guides for Rafting have been running on rivers for more than fifteen years. Our two senior most guides have more than two decades of experience behind them, with numerous expeditions with the armed forces. Other instructors have the required certifications for the activities they do. All  the mountain biking instructors have intimate knowledge of the lay of the land.

5. What about safety?

A.  Safety is our priority on all trips, whether it’s a regular camp based activity or a multi sport trip. From briefing about the trip to being there and ensuring that all safety in the outdoors are taken care of our team is well versed with what is takes to be safe and enjoying the outdoors.

6. What kind of experience do I need?

A.  For Camp based trips you typically don’t need any experience of having rafted before. However,  on a typical rafting expedition you should have rafted at least 3-4 time before. Better even if you have rafted on a range of rivers.

7. What kind of age restrictions do you have?

A. For normal camp based rafting trips 10 years of age is a must, however for younger kids we do ensure that they get a feel of the sport through some easier float trips. On expeditions we don't take anybody under 15 yrs and even those who come need to have prior rafting experience. All individuals under the age of 18 however need to furnish parental consent. For other activities it is up to the ability of the individual. KNOWING HOW TO CYCLE IS ESSENTIAL FOR BIKING TRIPS.

8. How can I reserve my spot?

A. If you have already selected your trip just email at query@gio.in and mention the trip and our people will take care of everything else. However if you need help selecting the right trip, you will be helped out with the same.
