This is a mystical trip owing to the amount of time one spends in this magnificent land. With its beautiful stark desertscape and stunning lakes, this is a trip that would give you a close look at the land and its lovely people. The various sites along the way are the Shey palace was built in 1645 by Deldan Namgyal as a summer residence for the kings of Ladakh. It is the oldest palace in Ladakh. Thiksey Gompa, close to Shey is about 17 kms from Leh. The monastery is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Ladakh and belongs to the Gelukspa order. Hemis, about 45 kms south of Leh it is one of the most famous and largest monastery in Ladakh. It belongs to the Drukpa order and was founded in the early 17th century. The setting is perfect with the monastery cradled in a lovely valley, surrounded by streams and fronted by long Mani walls. It was built in 1620 by the king-architect Singe Namgyal, a great patron of Buddhism. Hemis is the location for numerous religious festivals throughout the year. And for those of you who wish to really get high, a trip to the famous Khardung La should quench your thirst for flying. With the snow capped peaks and the scenery ever changing, this is a trip that you would remember for eons to come.

The hues of blue that the Pangong Tso allows for almost seems unnatural as for miles and miles you see this shimmering blue carpet that play with the sunlight and crates a canvass of its own. You would be hard pressed to decide on which blue it really is. Coupled with the monasteries of Alchi and Likir that would give you a good understanding of the Buddhist culture.

Day 03: Leh – Pangong Tso – Leh

You would start early in the morning for this high altitude brackish water lake and return only in the night. Overnight in a hotel in Leh.

The lake is situated at an altitude of 4267 m (14000 ft). It is a long narrow basin of inland drainage, hardly 6 to 7 kms at its widest point, and over 130 kms long, and is bisected by the international border between India and China. It presents a spectacular view of the mountains of the Chang-Chenmo range to the north, their reflections shimmering in the ever-changing blues and greens of the lake’s brackish waters. Spangmik and a scattering of other tiny villages along the lake's southern shore are the summer homes of a scanty population of Chang-pa, the nomadic herdsmen of Tibet and southeast Ladakh.

Day 04: Leh – Khardung La – Leh

The route from Leh to the Nubra valley and Siachen crosses over the Khardung La, the second highest motorable road in the world.  The line of the road is different from that of the old pony-trail, longer and actually higher (18300 ft / 5578 m). The view from the top is amazing. One can see all the way south over the Indus valley to the seemingly endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range, and north to the giants of the Saser massif. For several kilometres, on each side of the pass, the road is covered by deep snow in winter.

Return to Leh for lunch and post lunch, you have free to explore Leh bazaar or you have the option on going on a short rafting trip on the Indus. Overnight in a hotel in Leh.
