Just when you thought that autumn is over and winter is here in full blow and that mountains have officially closed their gates to us city-dwellers, well let us surprise you. Arriveth winters and some of the most pristine trekking routes in the Himalayas open up opportunities to conquer not just the mighty mountains but also challenge your spirit.

These winter treks are usually shorter in distance however snowfall and extreme winter temperature make them challenging even for an experienced trekker. Not to say that there are some routes which are easy if you are making a debut with in the trekking arena.

Chadar Trek

1. Chadar Trek, Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir

The trek of all treks, once you have done this one, there is no looking back. Considered the most beautiful, challenging and rewarding trek that Himalayas has to offer, this frozen trek goes back to ancient times when locals would use the frozen Zanskar riverbed as the way to travel to other parts.

4. Kuari  Pass Trek, Garhwal, Uttarakhand

This trek was discovered by Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of India, and in whose memory it is also called Lord Curzon Trail. This trek is also the route to pilgrimage sites of Joshimath and Badrinath.
