Leaders- Indian Adventure Tour Guides - GIO Adventures

Team GIO

At GIO Adventures we pride ourselves on well trained, safety savvy and an extremely experienced team of guides and experts for all our activities. GIO Adventures has a team over a hundred highly experienced and motivated Outdoor Specialists. Most of them have been outdoor specialists for more than a decade. They are well versed in handling children and make the learning process fun and easy, rather than pedantic. You will get many hours to learn from them on the trip.

Nalin Khanduri
GIO Adventures owes its genesis to Nalin and his passion for adventure. With a germ of an idea and great love for the outdoors he founded the company in 1999. Though an accomplished engineer and management graduate, Nalin found his true calling in the outdoors and can always be found espousing the cause on the Himalayas. He has been instrumental in making GIO Adventures a name to be reckoned with in the space of adventure travel in India with his uncanny ability to spot great locations and, great people to work with. Given a choice Nalin would have his office in Mori at the foot hills of the Har-ki-dun valley but for infrastructure practicalities. No surprises then that Nalin was featured on "Young Turks" on CNBC TV18.

R Balakrishnan
Bala remains an enigma for most in this field and with good reason! Though born and bred in the south (Kerala at that), his knowledge of the Himalayan landscape leaves even the most well informed with a sense of bewilderment. Bala utilizes his MBA skills to handle bulk of the domestic travel business and is also responsible for international marketing. Apart from being a co-founder and Director at GIO Bala's love for the outdoors often translates into his making trips into new and unchartered territories where his solitude would not be disturbed. Owing to his obvious brilliance in getting computers to do almost anything in the office, he is also known as "Brother Bill"

Satish Khanduri
Born to travel and explore Satish, Operational Head at GIO Adventures, is undoubtedly a man with the strongest mettle. Possessing 38 years of experience in travel and tourism, he has known distant lands and trekked the toughest trails. Having served as Assistant General Manager at Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam, Dehradun, for around 35 years, his knowledge is beyond comparison. Looking at his professional training, he owns a Basic & Advance Certificate in Mountaineering from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering.
Not forgetting to mention his Basic, Intermediate & Advance snow skiing courses from I.I.S.M. Wearing his heart on his sleeves, he has experienced the most popular high altitude treks, trails & river runs in Uttarakahnd region. Gangotri to Badrinath via Kalindikhal Pass (20,000 ft) & Gaumukh (Sources of River Ganges) to Ghastoli are few among the toughest treks and river stretches that he has encountered.
On asking him about his childhood, he chuckles and says “I have always been carefree”. Apart from his undying love for the mountains, he is fond of photography. An amazing narrator and storyteller, herds of people gather around him just to hear his stories. Tilting back his head, he recalls his fascinating mountain tales and transports the listeners to a mountain, far away. "

His training as a trekking guide started, since the day he joined GIO Adventures and now it has been 2 years, he has been a part of the team.

The journey of his life started in the Himalayas and this is how he relates himself with the mountains. “Pahari Bulla”, as people call him in the local dialect, ever since childhood, he was fond of mountains & travel. Recalling his memories, he states, “I used to walk 12 kms to school each day. It was pretty similar to trekking, as I had to hike the mountains and climb rocks that came on my way to school.Clambering the mountains day- in and day- out turned me into an adventure freak.” This was one reason he took up trekking as a profession.

Chopta, Tugnath & Chandrashila Peak seem to be the toughest trails for him. Yamuna river rafting is another challenge that is hard-hitting. Nag Tibba Trek is his favourite. Short trek, great views and an easy gradient, makes him fond of its trails. “Clients are happy while completing Nag Tibba Trek, as it’s a family trek, that can easily be covered by kids as well. Another reason that makes this trek one among the much loved treks, is because it’s in close proximity to my home.” says Arvind.  Talking about his hobbies, he likes to indulge in outdoor adventure activities. Apart from this, he is a die-hard fan of Kabbadi. Being the winner of Uttarakhand Kabbadi Championship under 16 & 17, he is a pro at this game. Bhindi ki subzi & Matar Paneer is what he longs for. I invited many of them at home for tea, just to know what mountains and adventure were all about!” On hearing their stories, Dheeraj’s dream of being a trekker, became stronger. Moved by the work of the trekking guides, he finally left his studies and chose to be a guide, which for him, was no less than a dream come true.
