Audens Col trek is one of the most extreme and beautiful trek in the Himalayas, connecting Rudurgaira valley and Bhilagna valley. This high altitude mountain pass situated at an elevation of 5490 m joins Gangotri and Kaidarnath, two of the major Hindu temples, which makes it more intimidating for any seasoned trekker to walk this trail. The venture starts from small temple town of Gangotri from where the trail moves into beautiful forests of Rhododendrons and Birch, crossing the tree line you come across magnificent meadows and valleys and streams and waterfalls, amidst the towering peaks of Gangotri Massif. The route is pretty gnarly, to cross the pass, theres a series of crevasses and rockfall zones that one need to cross, along with the no. of gushing streams that might require fixing a rope to cross them. Getting to the pass is half of a battle as getting down the Khatling glacier is the real fight, as its infested by innumerous big and small crevasses, that too along a glacier which is stuck at a gradient of almost 70 degrees if not more, making it quite unstable. All this makes this venture one of the most thrilling journeys in the Himalayas.
Although being one of the most scenic treks, it is suggested for experienced trekkers only, as the pass and the glaciers around it are infested with a huge no. of crevasses. Being one of the toughest and most technical treks, only a handful of professional companies carry out this venture, among which GIO adventures is one of the most respected and old name that climbers prefer.
