Perched at an elevation of 2,118 m, Chakrata is a small hamlet situated in Dehradun state of Uttarakhand. Going back in history this town was originally a cantonment of the British Indian Army. Nestled amidst the Yamuna & Tons Rivers, this spot possesses a rare beauty of its own. Blissful as it is, one gets to witness magnificent views of the Greater Himalayas from this pristine settlement. Blessed with bounties of nature, it is adorned with Mussoorie on its east and Kinnaur on the west. This is one reason that makes it a haven for avid trekkers. Popular hotspot among birdwatchers & wildlife lovers, this place is rich in flora and fauna. Home to a rare animal kingdom, species such as wild flows, spotted deer and panthers are found here.

Eager hikers can head out for short hikes and small treks in and around Chakrata. One can hike up to the very famous waterfall; the tiger falls chakrata and also till the alpine meadows of Mundali. Mountain climbers can scale the Kharamba Peak towering about 10,000 ft. This highest mountain in Chakrata, offers adventure freaks with a golden chance to experience the adrenaline rush.

There are numerous chakrata places to visit; Hano Mahasu Temple and the legendry Lakhamandal on the banks of river Yamuna are great when it comes to sightseeing. Talking about the weather, the summers are pleasant with cool mountain breeze blowing. In this season, the temperature ranges between 28°C to 10°C. Monsoon extends from July to September. Whereas winters, begin in the month of December and stay till the month of February. The winters are extremely chilly here with temperature shuttling below 16°C and as low as -5°C.The best time to visit this place is between the months of April to June & September to October.

How to Reach Chakrata

Chakrata has a well connected rail, road & air network. If you wish to take a flight, the nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun. There are numerous domestic flights that connect Dehradun with Delhi. Well connected by a motorable road, you can take the roads to Chakrata from Dehradun via Vikas Nagar. Dehradun railway station at a distance of 92kms is the nearest, thus one can also journey by train. Railway station of Dehradun is connected with major cities through a network of trains.
