Arrive at our camp in Rangrik on the banks of the River Spiti. Here you would be given an extensive briefing on various rafting techniques and safety procedures. Post this briefing, we would set off on a rafting run down the Spiti river from Rangrik to Sichling. This is a 25 kms rafting stretch and you would go through many Class I and II rapids. We would end the rafting trip at Sichling from where you could continue onwards to your destination.
From Kaza you can hire a Tata Sumo vehicle to drop you at Rangrik and pick you up from Sichling and this would cost you between Rs. 1700 – 2000 per vehicle. We would be able to assist you in this booking and you could get in touch with our team to help you out.
The weather during the July to Aug period allows one to travel into the Spiti region as this is one of the clear weather windows that one gets here. Even during this time the weather remains cold during the day with maximum temperatures of 15-18°C and night temperatures of 4-6°C.
Below is a list of essentials you would require at the camp:
Carry your stuff in a duffel bag, soft shoulder bag or a rucksack. Avoid suitcases, trolleys or any other hard luggage.
The Spiti region is a remote mountainous region in Himachal Pradesh and this region with the Lahaul area forms the road entry to Ladakh from Himachal Pradesh. This are is similar to Ladakh in landscape with it being a cold desert and it forms a stunning backdrop for a different holiday. This area can be approached through Manali (13/14 hrs drive) or you can go on a jeep safari starting from Shimla and enter Spiti after visiting the Sarahan, Sangla, etc. in the Kinnaur valley (5/6 days drive). The district HQ for Spiti is Kaza where most of the tourists stay. It has some good hotels and family-run guesthouses for a comfortable stay in this desolate landscape. The base for the day rafting trip is Rangrik which is 4 kms from Kaza and you could get vehicles from Kaza to drop you here and later pick you up from Sichling at the end of the trip.
