GIO Team Nalin Khanduri

Great Indian Outdoors owes its genesis to Nalin and his passion for adventure. With a germ of an idea and a great love for the outdoors he founded the company in 1999 and today is its Managing Director. Though an accomplished engineer and management graduate, Nalin found his true calling in the outdoors and can always be found espousing the cause on the Himalayas.

He has been instrumental in making GIO a name to be reckoned with in the space of adventure travel in India with his uncanny ability to spot great locations and, great people to work with. Given a choice Nalin would have his office in Mori at the foot hills of the Har-ki-dun valley but for infrastructure practicalities. No surprises then that Nalin was featured on "Young Turks" on CNBC TV18.

GIO Team R. Balakrishnan

Bala remains an enigma for most in this field and with good reason! Born and bred in the south (Kerala at that), his knowledge of the Himalayan landscape leaves even the most well informed with a sense of bewilderment. Bala utilizes his MBA skills to handle bulk of the domestic travel business and is also responsible for international marketing. Apart from being a co-founder and Director at GIO Bala's love for the outdoors often translates into his making trips into new and unchartered territories where his solitude would not be disturbed. Owing to his obvious brilliance in getting computers to do almost anything in the office, he is also known as "Brother Bill".

GIO Team Bhaskar Thaygarajan

Bhaskar with an MBA in Communications and a certified psychometric tool expert heads and defines the marketing function of GIO with his unique ability to bond and work with people of all kinds around him. Bhaskar has been at the forefront of all business and marketing initiatives apart from being a much sort after facilitator on the experiential learning platform. A true blue music lover at heart, Bhaskar's wide range of knowledge in music is not easily matched by many and if you are lucky enough to hear him sing by any of our riverside camps there is little more that you can ask for. Bhaskar is also a highly accomplished back packer who has travelled around the world in truly outdoors fashion with what else, but a simple back pack.

GIO Team Bharath Kathait

Bharath heads the GIO field operations team of over 70 members and has one of the toughest jobs in the company of being its Safety In-charge. An alumnus of NIM UttarKashi with over 14 years of experience in the Himalayas with quite a few peak climbs to his credit including Satopanth and Swargarohini, Bharat is also a river guide of considerable repute. Today his expertise goes in devising our safety policies and guidelines that are a hall mark of all GIO adventures. Bharat's calm countenance even in seemingly tricky situations and his melodious voice in the evening campfire have become a part of the GIO folklore.

GIO Team Deepak Rawat

Jack of all trades and a master of few is how one would sum up Deepak's unique abilities. A chemical engineer by profession but mountain goat by breeding, he would be a heated debating point in the Nature vs. Nurture argument. His ability to fix any problem from faulty plumbing to DG sets is so unique that the organization is looking for anyone else with similar skill sets. While not trouble shooting, Deepak is either organizing trekking expeditions to the mountains he knows so well or wondering how to make things better.

GIO Team Ravi Rai

Ravi is a master river guide & kayaker with over 14 years of rafting experience across India and Nepal and no surprises for guessing that he heads GIO's water activity division. A HMI Darjeeling alumnus Ravi is also an important member of the company's safety panel. A complete people's person, the general motto around all the GIO camps is that if you need a piece of worldly advice on anything Ravi is the man.

GIO Team Shreechand Rana

Shreechand is the company's proverbial mountain goat, typically perched on some unattainable vantage point from where he can be of assistance to you. Another NIM graduate in mountaineering, he is our ace trekking guide and has been literally doing it since he was born. He has extensively trekked all over the Indian Himalayas and is well loved by all those who have gone on a trip with him.

GIO Team Chain Singh

A spider who lay's his web with care and perfection that none might fall off, Chain Singh is our climbing expert and ropes man who would definitely give Tobey Mcguire a run for his money. His speed and agility on a climbing wall could make anybody feel that they are watching spidey himself. His style quotient is like a spider's strand, supple but strong.

GIO Team Narinder Rawat

A rafting guide with over 10 years experience, Narinder's ability on the river is only matched by his knowledge of Garhwali folk songs. His guiding skills seem to blend with the poetry in his heart when he is on the river. It is a definite joy and privilege to be on his boat on the river, not only for the smooth ride but also the running commentary that goes with it.

GIO Team Onkar

Popularly known as ‘Bahubali' after the movie Omkara, this safety kayaker is a treat to watch on the river. You would of course only understand his skill if you fall off or jump off the boat. His powerful strokes in a crunch situation are to be seen to be believed and then you know that he has an apt pseudonym in Bahubali.

GIO Team Sachin Rawat

Sachin is one who truely puts others before him. Despite being an NIM alumnus he decided to stay on at our NCR office so that he could help clients understand the wonders on the outdoors and the Himalayas. An accomplished yoga practitioner, his multi tasking abilities and terrain knowledge are just amazing.
